Not inspired by any one thing, Candy Randy came about as an attempt to capture the feel of hours spent aimlessly perusing children's advertising and packaging from the early 1960s.
 
It always reminds me a bit of Christmas and was named after an imaginary character in tales told to my youngest sister.

Candy Randy

Inspired by vintage fifties and sixties design and advertising, the original Horseshoes & Lemonade is a serif font with exaggerated angles and an uneven rectangle background motif popular at the time. Although this font contains capital letters only, the lowercase characters offer variations and alternating between the two can create a more playful look.
 
Since the initial release, the family has grown with the additions of Horseshoes and Horseshoes Outline — letter only versions without the backgrounds. It was also updated in 2024 to improve kerning and make minor tweaks to characters that felt a little awkward.
 
As an added bones, this package includes a set of seamless retro backgrounds in PSD (created in Adobe 2022) and PNG formats and SVG shapes.

Quintet is a narrow, stylized sans serif font made up of thin, looping lines. This font tries to walk the line between retro and modern and to incorporate some hand drawn imperfections without being too obvious about it.
 
I kicked off designing without any particular inspiration in mind but, as time went on, started associating it in my head with an old-timey, swingy jazz aesthetic. Think the Jeeves and Wooster throwback theme song and opening credits or the music of Stéphane Grappelli and Django Reinhardt (who the name is a nod to). That connection made pairing it up with abstract musical instruments seem like the natural choice and the commercial package also includes those illustrations. Quintet

When I created my first website, I loved using vintage sewing pattern illustrations in my designs. Thinking back on it, I wanted to create a dingbat inspired by those images and Sewing Patterns is the result.
 
The font features ladies-fashions in silhouette form for uppercase and lowercase letters and children's styles for the numbers.

Sewing Patterns

If Sewing Patterns wasn't quite vintage enough for you, Sewing Patterns 2 is the answer to your early twentieth century wishes. Spanning the years 1910 to 1949, it's more Downton Abbey than Mad Men, more Katharine than Audrey, and definitely contains more hats.
 
Like the original, the upper and lowercase letters feature what the well-dressed woman was wearing and the numbers are popular children's fashions.

Sewing Patterns 2

Sewing Patterns 3 is the latest installment in the Sewing Patterns font series and this time it's all menswear. This dingbat was inspired by men's fashions from the 1920s to the 1960s. Like it's predecessors, the numbers take a quick dive into children's styles from those eras.
